Garnet Crystals & Mineral WholesaleByminerals
Garnet is the name given to a large group of rock-forming minerals. They are also widely known as the January Birthstone. The name Garnet is derived from the Latin word "granatus", which means "Pomegranate". The name implies the resemblance of the red color of the pomegranate. Garnets come in all colors of the rainbow except shades of blue.
Garnet is not a single mineral, but a group of interconnected, homogeneous minerals. Historically, the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans adorned their ornaments with garnets. Roman leaders wore these gems, and they used a wax seal made of garnet. There are more than twenty species of garnet called species, but only five areas are commercially important as gems.
Garnet can be found in many parts of the world. It is also found in South Africa, Sri Lanka, Czechoslovakia, China, India, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Brazil, and the United States. In the story of Persephone and Hades in Greek mythology, Garnet refers to the safe and quick return of love as well as the healing of wounds between lovers. In Crystal Beliefs it is hoped that this will inspire love and devotion.
